So now that I have this neato weather station, I thought that I should find a use for it in addition to just having it look good on my desk.

The left gauge has both a temperature and humidity reading.

Since it often gets relatively humid in the building, our water-cooled magnets sweat pretty badly and water gets everywhere if they get below the dew point.  So I tracked down the following equation that relates the current temperature and relative humidity to the dew point:

where a=17.27, b=237.7°C, Td is the dew point, T is the current temperature in Celsius and H is the relative humidity.  I have no idea of the origin of the equation, but it seems to work and is good for temperatures of 0<T<60°C.  Of course, the next thing to do is to combine two of my favorite things and program this equation into my HP 35s calculator.  Now I know what to set the heat exchanger temperature to to avoid moisture condensing on the magnets!
